Job Purpose

The Senior Estimator faces the challenge of preparing tender returns and policing projects through the various tender stages. Their role is in ensuring that all enquiries are dealt with promptly, efficiently and with accuracy. The Senior Estimator will work closely with clients’ to understand their requirements and will ensure accurate presentation of quotations. They should have a sound knowledge of the systems in operation and will ensure that the Company’s reputation and brand continues to be built on excellent service and quality.

The Senior Estimator will work to ensure the optimisation of business profit through delivery of assigned projects to schedule and to specification. Ensuring that they are trained and competent with the relevant software systems tool available for estimating purposes; they will interpret the requirements from drawings and specifications and will translate these requirements into estimates for the tender process. They will be required to work cross-functionally and should be prepared to account for their presentation of completed estimates for the purpose of tender.

The Senior Estimator will keep abreast of the issues facing the business on a day to day basis and in the longer term, anticipating future challenges and opportunities and responding to these with effective planning, developing own solutions whilst maintaining the Company’s professional image throughout each stage of the tender process. They will endeavour to keep other departments informed of relevant projects and issues that may emerge.

They need to be able to provide a clear communication link between all parts of the business and to be forward looking in anticipating future challenges and opportunities and respond to these with effective planning.

The Senior Estimator will be responsible for delivering agreed business, revenue and margin objectives

Essential Experience

Highly competent in the interpretation of drawings
Clear understanding of specifications
Sound technical knowledge of the systems offered by the Company
Familiar with estimating software systems
Ability to make commercial decisions surrounding; choice of systems and profiles ,choice of glass specifications, margin and design pricing level within set parameters
Ability to manage strategically important new projects
IT literate
Desirable Experience

Business knowledge
Experience in estimating and using different approaches
Tertiary qualification
Educated ideally to Degree Level
Core Accountabilities

More specifically the Senior Estimator role entails:

Understanding the customer requirements for the project
Build relationships with counterparts in main contractors
Working with their line manager to deliver a high quality estimating function to the business
Analysis of specifications and drawings and raising queries where data is not sufficiently supplied or any doubt is present in the process
Producing costs for projects through the use of the software provided and in conjunction with suppliers
Preparation and presentation of quotes
Project management of tenders through main contractor appointment
Negotiation and value engineering during procurement
Ensure that projects are managed effectively through to their conclusion, using cross-functional working where necessary
Full understanding of the problems that may be encountered with the project and work to eliminate this risk through effective preparation
Effective communication with cross-functional teams, keeping everyone updated with projects
Maintain pipeline of work and ensure that it is updated weekly

Pay: £35,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
